The degree is by research only, requiring the student to produce a thesis/dissertation from the research.
However, students are required to attend and complete two crosscutting courses (i.e., Advanced qualitative data analysis and Philosophy of method) conducted by the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training.
It is a three-year degree starting in mid-September.
The degree is hosted by the Department of Agricultural Production (DAP) in the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) under the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES)
Prerequisite
- A Master of Science degree in either Animal Science, Veterinary Sciences, Biology, Zoology, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Livestock Production or a related discipline.

- OR a Postgraduate diploma (Second Class – lower division) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a closely related field from a recognized university/institution.
