Maseno University founded in 1991, is the only university on the globe that lies along the Equator (00). It is one of the original seven universities in Kenya. It has a number of campuses namely; Main Campus situated in Maseno Township along Kisumu-Busia road, 25 km from Kisumu City and approximately 400 km west of Nairobi the capital city of Kenya, Kisumu Campus, Odera Akang’o in Siaya County and the eCampus.

The language of instruction at Maseno University is English.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science programme at Maseno university is a structured programme that combines course work for one year and research work for two years. The programme commences in September every year.

  • Holders of Master’s Degree from a recognized university in Animal Science, or related fields such as animal health, biology, fisheries, agriculture, or a similar discipline.
  • In addition to the above, applicants must meet the specific requirements of the Doctoral degree programme as approved by Senate.

  • Posses two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references who can speak to your potential for success in a PhD program.
  • Present a 1000-word research concept within the area of study
  • Provide a detailed resume or CV outlining academic and professional experiences, including any relevant research, internships, or work experience.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, demonstrating academic background and achievements.

This is a structured two -year master of science programme with course work and reserach. The period of two academic years is distributed over four semesters of full-time attendance. The first academic year is course work while year two is research and thesis on a research area/topic guided by the departmental postgraduate faculty. Mode of delivery is an integrated approach of face-to-face and electronic media. The programme commences in September every year.

  • Holders of at least an upper second class honors degree in Animal Science of Maseno University or
  • Holders of a lower second class degree of Maseno University or any other recognized University and evidence of at least two (2) years research experience as demonstrated by publications in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Holders of a pass degree of Maseno University or any other recognized University and Postgraduate Diploma of Maseno University or any other recognized institution and evidence of at least three (3) years research experience as demonstrated by publications in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • In addition to the above, applicants must meet the specific requirements of the Masters’s programme as approved by Senate.

This is a structured masters of science programme combining course work with a thesis on a research area/topic guided by the departmental postgraduate faculty. It’s a two year programme where year one is course-work and year two is research which includes research proposal writing, field work and research thesis. However, research proposal writing can commence in the first year of training. The programme commences in September every year.

  • Holders of at least B.Sc in Environmental Science, B.Sc in Earth Science, B. Sc in Geography and Natural resource Management, B.Sc in Climate Change and Development, BA in Urban and Regional Planning, BA in Development Studies or other relevant disciplines with upper second class honours degree of Maseno University or any other recognized university.
  • Holders of a lower second class honours degree of Maseno University or any other recognised University and Postgraduate Diploma of Maseno University or any other recognised University, or evidence of extensive research experience as demonstrated by publications in peer reviewed journals.
