Student Story – Nakabugo Immaculate

 Student Story – Nakabugo Immaculate

My name is Nakabugo Immaculate, and I am from Uganda. I am deeply thankful to God for the opportunity to advance my career through the CaReFoAfrica mobility scholarship, which allows me to pursue a Ph.D. in Animal Science within the Department of Animal and Fisheries Science at the School of Agriculture, Food Security, and Environmental Sciences, Maseno university.

Since receiving the CaReFoAfrica mobility scholarship, my experience has been truly transformative. The supportive project team, led by the local project coordinator Dr. Caroline Wambui, made the entire process from preparing for the journey to traveling from Uganda and settling in Maseno smooth and stress-free.

Upon arriving in Maseno, I was deeply touched by the warmth and hospitality of the people, from the security guards to the staff in various offices. I felt at home from the very first day. The accommodation at the Academic Village Hostels has been ideal for supporting my academic journey. Additionally, the availability of a variety of foods similar to those in Uganda has made settling in Maseno much easier.

Despite the on and off strike by lecturers, the lectures I have attended have been engaging and valuable whenever they have been held. The lecturers have also provided detailed course outlines and assignments, which have been very helpful for my self-study and revision. My research supervisors, Dr. Wambui and Dr. Olwande, have been instrumental in guiding me on how to develop my concept note into a full research proposal, ensuring I meet the departmental and school deadlines for proposal submission.

Looking ahead, I expect to receive continuous support from the entire Maseno University community as I work towards successfully completing my course over the next three years, with a focus on becoming an expert in Animal Nutrition. I also look forward to networking with fellow scholars on the CaReFoAfrica mobility scholarship from other universities, as I hope to establish connections that may lead to future collaborations.

I would like to sincerely thank the CaReFoAfrica mobility scholarship selection committee once again for this incredible opportunity.
